I’ve wanted to expand my writing style for a long time, and what better way to do so than starting a blog! It seems like every millennial these days has one — and I guess in someway my professional website is a blog. Though I’d like to think it has more of a professional vibe than a typical blog.
I tend to be very serious in my writing — but I guess that comes with the territory of journalism. Hard news isn’t emotional. There isn’t room for fluff or creativity, and that’s what I love about it. Writers are always trying to find their voice. I never really considered myself as someone who had a voice. I am objective, honest and emotionless in my writing. I guess that’s a voice in itself.
A blog allows for creativity and a sense of personal honestly. What I love about news writing is the separation between the writing and oneself. News writing forces a writer to draw a line between their feelings and their work.
Personal writing comes with a sense of vulnerability — something I don’t think I was ready for in college. I’m not sure I believed in my voice or that I had one. At this moment, I don’t know what my voice is as a writer, but a personal blog will help me find it.
If you like following my professional work, take a look at my personal blog here. As a young journalist, a millennial and a recent college graduate, I believe I have a voice. Follow along as I work to find it.
