STOCKTON — The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed a woman died at an area hospital after being shot Friday night along the 1700 block of Gilchrist Avenue in Stockton.

Just after 10 p.m. Friday, authorities received a report of shots fired in an East Stockton neighborhood. The female victim, who’s identity has not been released pending notification of kin, was then taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Pete Smith with the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said this incident is something he hates to see in the community.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the shooting, Smith confirmed.

At this point, authorities have not identified a suspect or potential motive.

SACRAMENTO — Sacramento police set up a perimeter early Sunday morning in the area of Dias Avenue and Elder Creek Road in response to a report of shots fired, police confirmed.

According to authorities, the shots fired call came in around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. When officers arrived, they heard a gunshot, prompting the arrival of the SWAT team.

The police perimeter remained in the area for five hours, Sacramento Police confirmed.

No one was arrested nor were any victims identified, according to authorities.

BUTTE COUNTY — Cal Fire and Butte County Fire officials announced Sunday morning the arrests of two individuals suspected of sparking recent residential fires.

Authorities say 62-year-old Joe Padilla was arrested on suspicion of starting a fire in Bangor, near the Butte County and Yuba County border, along the 500 block of Stoney Oaks Loop. Padilla was booked in Butte County Jail on $31,000 bail for unlawfully causing fire to an inhabited structure and forest land. He was also charged with being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Fire officials responded to the Bangor fire just after 3 p.m. Friday. When firefighters arrived, they found a home and outbuilding engulfed in a “fully-involved” fire. The fire also extended on to nearby land, according to Cal Fire.

Just before midnight Friday night, fire officials responded to another fire in Gridley along the 1200 block of Almond Avenue. When crews arrived, they found a fire in a garage attached to a home. A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection to the Almond Avenue fire. The suspect, Jordan Anders, remains in Butte County Jail on $251,000 bail.

Anders was also charged on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

According to Cal Fire Butte County Chief Darren Read, no one was injured in either of the fires.

STOCKTON — A man was arrested early Sunday morning on a series of charges in connection to his girlfriend’s death, Stockton Police said.

Just after 3:30 p.m. Saturday, police found a 40-year-old woman dead in her home along the 4400 block of Calandria Street. The woman was found with trauma on her body, police said, and later pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, and boyfriend of the victim, 42-year-old Clarence Keith Bailey, was arrested Sunday morning around 4:30 a.m., jail records show. Bailey is being held without bail on murder, battery and child cruelty charges stemming from the woman’s death.

Bailey is expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in San Joaquin County Superior Court.

SACRAMENTO — A man was injured in a downtown Sacramento shooting early Sunday morning after an argument between two people, Sacramento police said.

A call came into police minutes before 2 a.m. Sunday regarding shots fired at 5th and I streets near a nightclub, according to police. When officers arrived, it was discovered the shooting had occurred at 5th and J streets.

The victim was then taken to a nearby hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, though police say he remains in stable condition.

According to police, the suspect fled the area prior to officers arriving at the scene Sunday morning. No arrests have been made and no suspect description is available at this time.

GALT — The California Highway Patrol has confirmed an 82-year-old woman died Friday morning  after a two-car crash in a Galt intersection.

Just before 9 a.m., the elderly woman was traveling southbound on Cherokee Lane. According to Michael Bradley with the CHP, the woman failed to stop at a stop sign at the Cherokee Lane and Simmerhorn Road intersection. As she proceeded through the intersection, a 32-year-old man driving westbound on Simmerhorn Road collided with the woman’s car, crashing into the driver’s side of her car.

Cosumnes Fire Department declared the woman dead at the scene shortly after the collision, Bradley said.

The woman was a resident of Galt.

According to the CHP, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision.

The male driver was transported to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

The identity of the female victim is likely to be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office once the woman’s family has been notified, Bradley said.

The 32-year-old driver is a resident of Wilton, according to the CHP.

SACRAMENTO — Fulton Avenue was closed for more than six hours Friday morning after two vehicles collided, leaving one individual with major injuries, the California Highway Patrol has reported.

Around 12:22 a.m. Friday, a Sacramento County Sheriff’s deputy was traveling northbound on Fulton Avenue in a Ford patrol utility vehicle, responding to a call. Another vehicle, a 2003 Honda CRV, was traveling southbound on Fulton Avenue. The driver of the Honda then attempted to make a left turn on on Pope Avenue, colliding with the deputy’s vehicle.

According to the CHP, a passenger in the Honda suffered major injuries. The agency has yet to provide more details on the extent of the individual’s injuries. Three other individuals in the Honda suffered minor injuries, including the driver.

The Sacramento County deputy received cuts to his face, the CHP said in a statement.

Occupants of the Honda were taken to UC Davis for medical treatment. The sheriff’s deputy was taken to Kaiser, according to the CHP.

Fulton Avenue closed around 12:30 a.m. Friday, shortly after the collision. The road reopened at 7 a.m.

CHP has said the collision is under investigation, though the agency doesn’t believe drugs or alcohol played a role.
